Responsibilities:

It is the duty of the Assessor to identify and value property within the Town in accordance with Real Property Tax Laws of NYS. All exemptions are administered by the Assessor; including veteran, senior citizen, agricultural and wholly exempt properties.

Owners who turn 65 (at least one spouse or sibling owner) by December 31st and are currently enrolled in the BASIC STAR program may apply for ENHANCED STAR with the Assessor. The form is available at: https://www.tax.ny.gov/pdf/current_forms/orpts/rp425e_fill_in.pdf. Applicants must also complete the following form which replaces the annual renewal requirement for ENHANCED STAR: https//www.tax.ny.gov/pdf/currnet_forms/orpts/rp425ivp_fill_in.pdf. Current senior citizen exemption is based on income and ranges from a 50% assessed valuation for income below $29,000, to a 5% exemption for income below $37,400.

Owners purchasing a home in the town of Hamptonburgh after 2015 must apply for the STAR Credit Program online at: tax.ny.gov/STAR.

The Assessor is required to mail property owners a notice of change in their assessment ten days prior to Grievance Day.  Assessment rolls are available on this website.

March 1st - Deadline for filing exemptions

May 1st - Tentative Assessment Roll completed and filed with the Town Clerk.

Grievance Day:  4th Tuesday in May

July 1st - Final Assessment roll completed and filed with the Town Clerk.
